    James Cecil Gartman
    June 6, 1935 – Jan. 31, 2017



    James Cecil Gartman, 81, of Elberta, a member of Swift Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years, died Jan. 31, 2017.

    A native of Chatom, he was a son of Cecil and Grace Gartman.

    The family includes Cecil’s beloved wife of more than 63 years, Elinor Jean Kaechele Gartman; sons, James Gartman (Sherry) and Todd Gartman (Cathy); daughters, Debra Gartman and Becky Gartman Underwood (Neal); grandchildren, Michael Gartman (K.C.), Shellie Kichler (Nathan), Kristin Underwood, Haley Underwood, Grace Gartman and Meredith Gartman; great-grandsons, McCoy and Baylor Kichler; stepgrandsons, Matthew and Palmer; and a sister, Mary Glen Dees.

    Mr. Gartman leaves a large extended family and many friends.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Brian Scott Gartman; and sisters and brothers, Ducie (Wanda), Genevieve, Robert and Larry.

    Cecil’s deeply loved grandchildren will especially miss his laughter.

    A Service of Witness to the Resurrection celebrating the life of Cecil Gartman was held Feb. 3 at Swift Presbyterian Church.

    Visitation with the family was at noon, with the service at 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

    Burial was in the church cemetery. A social time with the family followed in the Swift fellowship hall.
