     Sunday announcements

     Sept. 27 • 2020
     26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Elder of the month: Al Sprouse

    Five practices of fruitful congregations

    Passionate worship

     — 10 a.m. and later —
    Online worship service

    ■ Our online worship service is available at www.swiftchurch.org, on the Swift Presbyterian Church Facebook page and on YouTube.

    ■ Arrangements are being made to clear the church property. There are dangling limbs, leaning trees and other factors that make the property less than safe for traffic. Many of our congregation are still without electricity, housing or clear guidance of what’s next for them and their homes and families.

    ■ Use this Sunday to rest. Use Sunday to be the hands and feet of Christ for others. Use Sunday to “be the church” in the world.

    Sermon:
    ‘They Tried To Kill Us.
    We Survived. Let’s Eat.’

    Esther 7:1–10 and 9:20–22
    — The Rev. Keith Cardwell

    ■ Acolyte: Lainey Thomas
    ■ Time with the children: Dorothy Warner
    ■ Scripture: Karl and Brenda, Phil and Pastor Jody Beth

    ■ Seeking worship helpers — If you would like to light and extinguish the candles as an acolyte, lead “time with the children,” or read Scripture as part of our online Sunday worship, please contact the church office for more information.

    ■ Sunday, Oct. 4 — Pastor Jody Beth will be preaching. This is a communion service. Please bring bread and juice for your family. Services will be online, and we hope to also be able to worship in person.

    Radical hospitality

We continue to practice radical hospitality by ongoing contact with our church family. Let us welcome God in, receive God’s love and make room for God in our lives. Let us pray that we will soon be together again, focusing on receiving God’s love and sharing it with others.

    Intentional faith development
►‘Snacks with Susan and Daryl’ Sunday school class

Sunday school is canceled this Sunday, Sept. 27.

►Adult Sunday school class, led by Cheryl

Due to extensive storm damage to her home, Cheryl’s class is canceled until further notice.

    Risk-taking mission and service
    ►Food pantry update

The pantry was open on Wednesday, Sept. 23, and served 40 people with 14 bags of food. The food pantry will be open again Oct. 14 and Oct. 28.

    ►Swift financial help

If you are in financial need from damage and during recovery from Hurricane Sally or from lack of work, medical bills, or other reasons, please contact Pastors Keith or Jody Beth for financial assistance.

    ►Warning on email, text messages

If you receive an email or text message that appears to be from Pastor Keith requesting money or one that seems suspicious, please contact Pastor Keith before responding.

    Extravagant generosity
    ►Tithes and offerings

Thank you for your generous and ongoing offerings. Your financial support, through checks or online giving through our website, enable Swift Church ministry to continue. If you are in need of assistance or if you are able to donate your time and talents to help those who have had damage from Hurricane Sally, please contact Pastor Jody Beth. She is serving as coordinator with those offering to help and those in need. Contact her at swiftpc@gulftel.com or 251-213-6625.
