Today we recognize and pray for all the students, teachers and families as they begin the new Sunday school year and school year.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.”

      — Proverbs 3:5–6

      ►A congregational meeting ...

will be held on Sunday, Aug. 14, at 9:45 a.m. in the sanctuary to elect four at-large members of the nominating committee. This committee will be seeking three ruling elders, three deacons, and two trustee candidates.

      ►Fellowship time

We invite everyone to join us for fellowship time, immediately after the 10:00 service, in the fellowship hall.

      ►Sanctuary flowers

If you would like to place flowers on the chancel to honor or celebrate a loved one or a special occasion or “just because,” please contact Susie Alexander at 251-943-4145 or 217- 246-4051.

      ►Volunteers for worship

Are you willing to serve as an acolyte, as a greeter/usher or lead “time with the children”? Contact Greg McNair, worship elder, at 251-965-1003 or gregmcnair@centurylink.net.

      Risk-taking mission and service
      ►Food pantry

The food pantry is open every Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. to serve the community.

This week, we served 49 families and 122 people.

We need plastic grocery bags for the food pantry. Please bring your extra plastic grocery bags to church today. Thanks for your help.

      Intentional faith development
►Adult Sunday school class led by Bill and Catherine

Bill and Catherine’s class will meet at 9 a.m. in room 2 in the annex. The class is studying the book of Genesis. Join us.

►‘Snacks with Susan and Daryl’ Sunday school class

Susan and Daryl’s class meets at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

The class will resume today with a four-week study by Matt Rawle titled “The Faith of a Mockingbird.” Sticking with our Alabama roots, we will look at four characters in “To Kill a Mockingbird,” written by our neighbor to the north — Harper Lee. We will explore how God is present in pop culture and how these keys to the story show God’s love and redemptive spirit. Join us for good conversation and some different thoughts on a familiar novel/movie.

►Sunday school for children and youth

Tracy Akins’s class, which normally meets at 9 a.m. in the youth room in the annex, will not meet today.

      A note from Pastor Michael

In 2018 and 2019 a small group of members of the congregation attended a presbytery event on congregational vitality. I was told that the event generated some positive energy, so I met with them this past Tuesday (Aug. 2) to help me understand what was learned and how they saw it applying to Swift Presbyterian during this threshold time. This is the first of many steps that we as a congregation will take on this journey of discernment. Look for more information on similar opportunities for small and large group discussion. My goal is to hear from as many of you as possible during this time of transition. I would ask that you be patient as the process unfolds and trust that the Holy Spirit will be guiding us all as we look forward with hope for what lies ahead in the life and ministry of Swift Presbyterian Church.

      Grace and Peace,
      Pastor Michael

      Extravagant generosity

Thank you for your generous pledges and ongoing offerings. Your support and commitment to Swift Church is greatly appreciated.

      ►Please let us know . . .

Please call the church or email to notify us of any joys or concerns; birthdays, anniversaries, health issues or family deaths so that we may put it in the weekly emailed announcements for your church family to pray with you or to praise God for your joy.
