    A message ...

    ... regarding COVID-19 and worship

State health officials announced that more frontline workers, people 16 years and older, those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and residents age 16 to 64 with certain high-risk medical conditions can receive the vaccine effective April 5. Qualifying medical conditions include cancer, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, smoking, obesity, sickle cell disease and heart conditions.

Thank you for your part in making gathering for worship as safely as possible by practicing safety measures while on the campus. As a precaution, do not attend if you have COVID-19, flu, or cold symptoms. When present wear a mask, use sanitizer, and keep a safe distance from others.

    ►Volunteers for online worship

As more children drop out as acolyte volunteers, or adults as “time with the children” volunteers, Greg McNair needs your help by offering to be a part of these important endeavors of our online worship services. It only takes a few minutes of your time to record your part of the service and does not have to be done each week. Contact Greg at 251-965-1003 or gregmcnair@centurylink.net.

    Radical hospitality

We continue to practice radical hospitality by ongoing contact with our church family. Let us welcome God in, receive God’s love and make room for God in our lives. Let us pray that we all will soon be together again, focusing on receiving God’s love and sharing it with others.

    Intentional faith development
    ►Youth group meeting again

The youth will meet Sunday evening, April 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. Please come and bring your friends.

►‘Snacks with Susan and Daryl’ Sunday school class

“Snacks with Susan and Daryl” is taking a break and will resume again on April 11.

We will begin our new study — Moses (In the Footsteps of a Reluctant Prophet). Books for the study will be $5; if you would like a book, please let Susan know as soon as possible so she can place an order.

The class normally meets at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

►Adult Sunday school class led by Cheryl Jensen

Join us this week as we continue our study of the New Testament. Please join us at 9 a.m. in room 2 in the annex.

    ►Online ‘Zoom’ Bible study

I’m Mike Brewer, a recently retired pastor and an old friend of Keith Cardwell. While Jody Beth and Phil are getting their lives back to normal, I’m filling in as the Bible study leader.

The Bible study each week focuses on Keith’s text and sermon from the prior Sunday. It would be great if you had an opportunity to hear Keith’s sermon and to ponder the text a bit, but there are no requirements for this study. Just join us, and together we’ll take it from there.

The topic for April 8 is Mark 16:1–8 — “Again and Again, The Sun Rises.”

We will meet next Thursday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. For the Zoom info, please contact the office. I hope to see you soon.

    Blessings!

    — Michael Brewer

    Risk-taking mission and service
    ►Mission focus

Our mission focus during April is One Great Hour of Sharing. Each gift to OGHS supports efforts to relieve hunger through the Presbyterian Hunger Program, promote development through the Presbyterian committee on the self-development of people, and assist in areas of disaster through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.

Please donate as your heart leads you for this worthwhile charity.

    ►Food pantry update

The food pantry will be open April 14 and 28 to serve families in our area.

Volunteers are always needed and welcome to help with the food pantry ministry. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Kathy Menk at 251-518-7966.

    ►Swift financial help

If you are in financial need from lack of work, medical bills, or other reasons, please contact pastors Keith or Jody Beth for financial assistance. Your generosity to the pastors’ discretionary fund allows us to provide those in need with financial support.

    ►Warning on email, text messages

If you receive an email or text message that appears to be from Pastor Keith requesting money or one that seems suspicious, please contact Pastor Keith before responding.

    Extravagant generosity
    ►Tithes and offerings

Thank you for your generous and ongoing offerings. Your financial support, through checks or online giving through our website, enable Swift Church ministry to continue.

    ►Sanctuary flowers

If you are interested in placing flowers in the church sanctuary, please contact Susie Alexander at 251-943-4145 or thfairy@gmail.com.

    Prayers and joys
    ►Please let us know . . .

Please call the church or email to notify us of any joys or concerns; birthdays, anniversaries, health issues or family deaths so that we may put it in the weekly emailed announcements for your church family to pray with you or to praise God for your joy. (We don’t publish personal prayer concerns on the website.)

    swiftpastor@gmail.com, jodybeth7@yahoo.com or swiftpc@gulftel.net.
